Hi,

On Mon, Nov 22, 2004 at 10:19:48AM -0500, Jared Mauch wrote:

NPE-225 and NPE-300 can only go to 256 Mb (at least that's what documented), so the unlucky owners of these will need to get NPEs, and in some cases, new VXR chassis (NPE-225 sitting in non-VXRs).

FYI: i've tried putting a 512m in the NPE-225, it doesn't work.

Thanks for the test.

I tried 256 Mb DIMMs in a NPE-300 today, and the result is "interesting":

- Slot 2: 256 Mb DIMM, Slot 3: empty -> Router boots, has 256 Mb DRAM, everything seems "normal"

- Slot 2: 256 Mb DIMM, Slot 3: 128 or 256 Mb DIMM -> Boot ROM never reaches the point of printing the initial memory size ("C7200 platform with X Kbytes of main memory")

- Slot 2: <anything>, Slot 3: 256 Mb DIMM -> Boot ROM complains that "Slot 2 DIMM must be bigger than Slot 3" (as usual)

In short: while the fact that 256 Mb "with a single DIMM" works is interesting, any combination "NPE-300 with more than 256 Mb" does NOT work.
