ps. By the way, speaking of creeping featurism, has anyone else got a use for a client-spec attribute called "encrypt the contents of the files in transmission"? For telecommuting across the Internet, I'm finding that I could use this.

Yes! I've been asking for this since the first time I looked at Perforce. IIRC, SSH is usable but you still lose out on security if people have access to the redirected ports. In general, I'd like to see better security & authentication throughout. But this stuff should be added in 97.4... :-)
