What part of "if you don't want mail delivery to take place, run courier stop" do you not understand?

I think Jérôme is looking for the step-by-step. To that end:

1: use "courier stop" to stop processing mail 2: inject more mail than courier can deliver in one or two seconds. Craft a message and inject it a few hundred times. 3: use "courier start" to move the messages from the tmp directory into the queue 4: immediately afterward, use "courier stop" to stop delivering mail

As a result, you should have a good deal of mail left in your queue, and you can test your modifications.

Yes. That something appearing or not appearing in the mail queue is completely irrelevant.

Well, in this case it is relevant... He's trying to test modifications to the mailq command.
