Personally, I don't think this is necessary or even good. You would discourage those who correctly selected a project that would fit for the current deadline and lower their chances versus those projects which basically were to big to be done until the deadline. Instead of now extending the deadline I would vote for having a second round of the competition with a longer deadline.
