Do you mean locking, exclusively locking, or do you mean read-only on your hard drive?

For locking vs exclusive locking, look at http://perforce.com/perforce/doc.042/manuals/p4guide/05_conflicts.html#1 043368

If you want to set all files to have exclusive locking, look at setting the +l property on all files, plus look at typemap (http://perforce.com/perforce/doc.042/manuals/cmdref/typemap.html#104066 5)

Is it possible to default all files to the locked state when they are checked out for edit?
