It seems that
there is a scarcity of tools for managing email in this way.
There are plenty of tools for that: bash, perl, awk, and grep. Once your
mail is in the maildir format, you can use these tools with mail just like
you'd use them with other files.
Furthermore, maildrop has additional tools that go beyond simple file
manipulations. reformime, for example, lets you do all kinds of things with
MIME content. mimegpg, for example, lets you handle with encrypted and
signed messages.
