Please don't write to me off list, please keep questions and remarks on the list. That's where you put your original question.
Dunno how you get this value (e.g. this site has it for each user in LDAP), but it should be 25600000S, possibly with a C after that, depending on your taste (now where did I get that from?)
OK, but my last post also contained the contents of my maildirsize file, and it does indeed have an S. But that begs the question, am I using MySQL for the quota field? My authmysqlrc file says :"MYSQL_QUOTA_FIELD quota", so yes it is and I didn't even know it. I've been inserting it into the database without the S, because I thought it was just for display purposes. Well I've learned something new and it is off to the docs I go to see what I can find out about it.
Question, Barry Flanagan says: "up to now used Mysql and set the quota field to be concat(quota,'S')". Does that mean I can set MYSQL_QUOTA_FIELD to "concat(quota,'S')" and fix my problem?
Don't know, I'd never use SQL for maildrop (or anything else but where LDAP isn't the best practical database for the job).
Question 2, Why does it only complain when the mailbox is full?
That's the way it's written. You can have maildrop send a warning to the user when his/her mailbox is nearing the quota limit - for this again read the docs. Further, 2 of our 3 site MUAs, SquirrelMail (with plugin) and Thunderbird, will show the quota use to the users (SM pushes it up their noses, with Thunderbird the users have to be really savvy to figure out how they can see their quota use). Evolution 2 has no quota notification support.
Question 3, I had thought I was using maildirsize files to control the quota, and they are created automatically when a new mailbox is added to the system by our web administration system. Do I still need to create these? My guess is no, but as I said "off to the docs I go".
No, maildirsize for each user is created and maintained automatically. It's *very* occasionally necessary to delete it by hand if maildrop is having problems with adjusting to a new quota, and let maildrop recreate it - but at our site (1250+ users) that happens once in a blue moon.
