Hi Matthew,

For now, if you want to include Senors in your Android application, you can test them with the OpenIntents SensorSimulator:

http://code.google.com/p/openintents/wiki/SensorSimulator

(you can try it out "live" here: http://www.openintents.org/sensorsimulator )

It currently supports Accelerometer, Compass, Orientation sensor, and as a small bonus temperature sensor as well.

If your application runs with the SensorSimulator, it will run with real sensors on Android once they are available, as the implementation of the SensorSimulator is derived from the android.hardware.Sensors class ( http://code.google.com/android/reference/android/hardware/Sensors.html )

Do you know if there is or there are plans for acceloremeter support. I think acceloremeters are the next big thing in mobile devices and they will unleash a whole new wave of possibilities. If there isn't anything in the pipeline I think that the Android team should give it some serious thought. A lot has already been done with the accelerometer SDK for the Nokia N95 and there is a lot of buzz about
