I'm trying to install the Win32 version of MySQL and having no luck. It just
doesn't run. I've got tons of documentation here and I'm sure the answer's
in it, I'm just missing it.
I'm running Win 98, local, with TCP/IP set to automatically grab a new
number.
I've tried mysql-3.23.32.tar.gz and mysql-3.23.32-win.zip. I've unpacked
both to C:\MySQL. I'd just as soon download the development version 3.23.33,
but haven't found it. (Perhaps the .33 is a typo?)
It's my understanding that the binary versions don't need much in the way of
installation and I believe both of the files I've tried are binary. I've not
found any instructions that actually discuss installing the binary files --
just instructions for compiling and configuring the source files. Although
one doc said to run setup, I've not found a setup in the actual files.
When I try to start the server from the DOS prompt, I just get the bad file
or command error.
Any help? Thanks!
