You don't mention your OS. Most Linux distributions have pre-packaged binaries available, so you would use whatever packaging system your distroi uses. Nor do you mention which problems you've had.

Me, I use Debian unstable; I just said "apt-get install maildrop", and it was done. :-) After that, it was a matter of configuring my mail server to use maildrop as local delivery agent, and writing mailfilter files.
