The "sophisticated filtering" is not being done in dot-courier.

I don't know the internals of Courier. Is it the case that a call to maildrop from inside of ~/.courier is somehow more efficient than doing the same kind of filtering via a different external program invoked from inside of ~/.courier? Does Courier do the Right Thing and avoid actually forking a new process and starting a new executable when it sees the special case of maildrop being invoked from inside ~/.courier?
