Just about all of our customers are too damned stupid to be able to use Notepad. The only way we let them play with filters is through sqwebmail, and that's beyond most of them. Hell, it's beyond most of our employees, who are far more techy than our customers. There are times even I have problems puzzling out some of the more obscure features.

If you have users who are capable of understanding raw maildrop syntax and editing mailfilters by hand then you have users who are intelligent enough to understand about having to deal with end-of-line conventions. Really. If they are too stupid to understand about EOL problems then they should never be let near the raw filter files. If they understand all the complexities of filter files then EOL problems ought to be trivial to them.

Really, really, really, really. If you understand regexps then you ought to understand EOL conventions.
