Can't you set up a cron job to copy the depot to the NT server at a regular interval and keep the depot on the linux box? The chance of having the cron job active and rebooting the NT server at the same time should be quite small.

I'm trying to get p4d running on Linux with the depot on an NT server accessed through smbfs. The reason for this weird system is that I'd like to keep everything important on the official company server (which gets backed up every night) but have p4d running on Linux so that Unix clients can get proper case-sensitive filename treatment.
However, p4d seems to dump core about once a week. At those times I see a lot of errors from the smbfs driver, but I can't quite sort out the cause and effect here---is p4d misbehaving or is smbfs? My current theory is that this happens whenever my NT admin reboots the server---smbfs can't handle the temporary disconnection and goes nuts, which hangs p4d. But I'd like to know if anyone else has seen similar behavior.
I'm running the latest p4d, but the Linux box has only a vanilla install of Red Hat 5.2, meaning kernel 2.0.31 and smbfs 0.8. (I realize those are a bit old---maybe all I need to do is try the latest?)
Any input is much appreciated! My company's evaluating Perforce and I like it a lot, but I really need to get it working more reliably than this or I'm going to have to consider Visual SourceSafe. 8-(
