Maybe I'll go and patch maildrop to be able to fetch delivery instructions from a DB but I'd really prefer it if dot-courier could filter mails through external commands.

But dot-courier can indeed filter mails through external commands.

For example, I have the following contents in my ~/.courier for one of my home directories:

|preline /usr/local/tmda/bin/tmda-filter
