Thanks for the reply guys...so far I'm trying out netmrg and really like it...just having a little trouble getting some things setup but working with the people in the forums...should be good soon. netmrg just might suit my needs...but if not...from all the good things I've heard, I will try nagios.

Hey guys...can anyone point me in the direction of some open source tools for monitoring a cisco network. For example...making sure all switch ports are up...checking bandwidth and sedning alerts it is goes over a certain threshhold...that kind of thing?

Depends heavily on what you expect ;) I use and would also vote for http://www.nagios.org for Monitoring and alerting
