Dear Mark,

I could use a UNLOAD DATA OUTFILE table 'dump' over the network too.

Kind Regards, Allan Unnerup

There isn't a command 'UNLOAD DATA' in MySQL. If you're referring to 'SELECT INTO OUTFILE', 'OUTFILE' ends up on the server, it doesn't travel over the network. See:

http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/SELECT.html

No, it doesn't travel over the network.

What I need is the opposite functionality of 'LOAD DATA INFILE', which *should* travel over the network.

Which doesn't exist, at least currently. However, it would be trivial to develop for any client (JDBC/libmysql/ODBC, etc), and in fact 'mysqldump' is a good example, if you disregard all of the options it can use. Is there a reason you just can't use 'mysqldump'?
