I've been watching reiser4 for a while now with the ultimate goal of getting my Maildirs on it, but not until at least a few distributions start using it by default.

On the topic of Maildir performance, has anyone compared Courier's IMAP server on RHEL 4 to other systems? RHEL 4 includes an ext3 fs that supports hashed directories, pre-allocated extends, and some other features that seem like they'd benefit Maildir applications immensly, especially on very large folders.

I'm on RHEL4 and it's certainly fast, but then at the same time we upgraded from RHEL3 we put in a new server with Dual Opterons, 6gb RAM and a RAID10 array of 15k SCSI drives so "fast" isn't exactly objective... Do you have any simple benchmark scripts that I could use to compare say RHEL3 to RHEL4? I'd be willing to give it a shot on a test box if it wasn't to time consuming to setup.
