Well - I just tested by setting Pidgin to notify on new mail to this account, then sent a mail to my GAFYD-account. And got the notification in Pidgin. So as far as I can see, this solves the problem.

I just came over to this group to ask the very same question. My XMPP SRV records are set up as the instructions explain, but I still can't get Pidgin to connect. Suggestions would be gratefully received.
