telnet 192.168.11.1 25 from a local client gives an ESMTP answer from 192.168.11.1 telnet 192.168.11.1 25 from the 192.168.11.1-machine itself drops the connection inmediately.

The smtpacces files are both the same: 127.0.0.1 allow,RELAYCLIENT 192.168 allow,RELAYCLIENT

[ Snip ]

I installed it first on a fbsd-5.4 machine, because sendmail was running on that one and I would be sure a totally NEW install of courier would appear. That machine makes no mistakes. It's the upgraded server wich ran courier before (0.45). I wiped out /usr/local/etc/courier too, did a pkg_deinstall for the other parts and after that I ran portinstall courier. Version 0.50.1 was smoothly installed (including authlib). I looked carefully over the config files. Changed the NO's to YES where appropriate and all runs very well.

The ONLY point is that couriertcpd on the server drops connections immediately IF CONTACTED FROM the server itself. Contacts from other machines are picked up as they should be. And this is exactly what bothers me. I can use the smtp.nagual.st smtp server from all points, but I wnat to use it from the server itself too.

What happens if you "telnet 127.0.0.1 25" ?

(I assume netstat shows something listening on 127.0.0.1:25)

As far as I know, FreeBSD doesn't have "iptables", but this is looking like that sort of problem, since we know that couriertcpd is working fine with your stack from the wire side, and you're not getting rejection logs.
