Without -stderr, TCL/Tk (version 8.5) or Pd's console gets really confused and
displays a big empty space with invisible text that shows up only when carefully
selected...

other externals may be affected by this issue too...

this is (somewhat) by intention. does it make any problems (apart from being "unpretty")?

as long as "zexy $(VERSION) and something indicating "copyleft <me>" is displayed, i will not fix it.
