when sending mails via postfix Postfix creates automatically a Maildir (with a big M) in the user's directory. maildirmake /usr/people/helene/maildir (which is a courier command) creates also a directory called maildir but with a little m. So the pop-clients were confused. So I changed home_maildir = maildir/ (with a little m) in main.cf

That's all. So I can finally read my mails.

Strange! My courier setup (also Postfix) uses Maildir without problems! And I can't remember having tweaked anything...
