I received an email today from FreeBSD-announce with the statement that Courier (among others) is going to be removed from the FreeBSD-ports-collection unless it is fixed. Has anybody got more info on this?

It's not Courier that needs to be fixed, it's the port. More info is in the freebsd-ports@ archive.
