I have been using courier-mta for years with the same config without problems.

Now I keep getting 456 Address temporarily unavailable on some addresses. The very strange thing is that there are times (rare) where the mail for these address are delivered normally.

I have recently upgraded my Debian boxes where courier is used.

The setup is special : there are 2 servers : * omallet.thefreecat.org : main server that receives all mail for thefreecat.org domain (and hosted domains). * miaou.thefreecat.org : secondary server (local at my home) that receives mails for a few accounts (the ones that get the 456 error now). "cat" is one of them.

All emails for ca...@thefreecat.org are redirected to ca...@miaou.thefreecat.org

I also have a catchall for @thefreecat.org (defined in aliasdir/.courier-default) that directs all mails to "cat"

Now, the catchall is working perfectly (this is how I get courier-users messages). So far, so good, no SPAM is lost <g>.

All the non-thefreecat.org domains work perfectly too.

If I locally (on the main server, omallet) do a : echo "hello" |mail ca...@thefreecat.org The mail is redirected to miaou and delivered fine.

echo "hello" |mail ca...@miaou.thefreecat.org This one gets delivered too.

But all emails to ca...@thefreecat.org (direct) are *most of the time* rejected with the 456 error (I say most of the times because I am sometimes receiving mails addressed to ca...@thefreecat.org but they can be 2 days old).

Digging in both syslogs I find :

So this looks like a smtp problem but the link between omallet and miaou *is* also smtp. And I don't have network errors.

I don't know where to search or how to get any more info to debug.
