I was mistaken in my statement in an earlier post that there are no Windows
binaries out there that have the spatial extension turned on. The problem was
totally my fault. Apparently you have to explicitly declare the storage engine
to be MYISAM when you create your tables. I did not realize my installation was
set to default to InnoDB instead of MyISAM. Anyway, the spatial functions do
work on Windows! Thanks to those who offered help.
