Both virtual and physical accounts can be managed via LDAP. There's no difference between physical and virtual accounts, except a semantical one. Both kinds involve a defined home directory, for the account. $sysconfdir/courierd contains instructions for using maildrop to deliver mail locally, so mail filtering instructions can be installed in $HOME/.mailfilter, in either case. Additionally, sysconfdir/maildroprc specifies global mail filtering instructions that are carried out prior to $HOME/.mailfilter. See courier(8) and maildropfilter(5) man pages.

I did read the manpages. Many times. :) Still, in my case .mailfilter-s are ignored when placed into the virtual users home directories. In "real" unix users homes they work fine.

I'll gather more evidence/diagnostics and send it to the list.
