i also try changing the command length, but latter i found a command the was cutoff in the middle of a path and that caused a lot of problems.

note: i set the command length to 10240.

Nah, really? Then why is it we're going around and around about how to use response files, etc., for NT when we could have just bumped MAXCMD? It certainly seems like somewhere back there there was an actual reason for that 996 limit... I seem to remember struggling with this at Sybase but the details elude me.
