Hi Gully, more info...

...and the difference is always about 1/16" (which I take to be about the smallest measurable distance, given that my drawing template is "Feet Inches (Architectural)-3D"

How can that be? Using "Architectural" units, you are allowed a precision as small as 1/64", if you select it from the drop-down list.

Let me add another detail: In Model Info, it turns out, my precision is set to 1/16".

May I suggest that you may have "Enable length snapping" set, possibly at increments of 1/16"? That can screw you up, just as any snapping grid will, if you're trying to draw something that doesn't happen to fall on the grid. Personally, I never use it.

I do, in fact, have length snapping enabled - to 1/4". So, my understanding is that this could never result in one side of my foundation being "snapped" to 1' 6 1/16", when I originally pulled it to 1' 6" by typing in the VCB. Right?

I'm basing my opinion on pretty much the same kind of non-rigorous evidence upon which Taff based his: as my skill with SU has improved over the last two-plus years, instances of inexplicably inaccurate geometry have dropped off almost entirely.

Let me draw on y'all's experience, then... Here is an approach to using SketchUp that I'm considering, drawn from poking around in the help & this forum. Tell me if you think this is a good way to keep things accurate:

1. Draw the foundation, ensure it's right, then make it a component & lock it. 2. Change to Layer 1, draw interior & exterior walls with doors & windows, make each a component & lock them all. 3. Change to Layer 2, add interior furnishings. etc.

Does this sound like a good approach? Or what methods have you found helpful?

Thanks for any & all suggestions!

Todd
