I'm using postfix + maildrop on freebsd 4.9 (stable)

What Postfix, what maildrop?

In main.cf, i have: mailbox_transport = maildrop

This is for delivery to local users by local(8). It needs arguments.

In master.cf, i have: maildrop unix - n n - - pipe flags=DRhu user=vmail argv=/usr/local/bin/maildrop -d ${recipient}

This is for delivery to virtual users by virtual(8).

You shouldn't use both; use one or the other, unless you combine both local and virtual domains.

I use local users only (no virtual).

In master.cf, i have user=vmail and vmail account doesn't exist, so it doesn't work of course. What should i do ?

For local delivery you do not use vmail for delivery.

There is comprehensive documentation in the standard Postfix source tarball. I do not know what BSD ports give you. With Postfix 2.1 and later, there is also new documentation including hyperlinked html. In that doco there is a maildrop howto. The documentation is also available on the Postfix website. Maildrop documentation is supplied with the maildrop source code.

You'll probably also want to subscribe to the Postfix mailing list.
