I did try setting this in a .htaccess file within the eventum root folder, without any success.
Does this have anything to do with the version of PHP?

Did you make the following change in your php.ini file? allow_call_time_pass_reference= On
I am not sure whether your error will disappear once you uncomment the above lines but you might want to give it a shot

I installed eventum 1.7.0 on my webhost, and ran into the following error messages (after turning the error display feature on).
