If you are an NT shop, run p4 server on an NT server. We use a dedicaded standalone NT server for p4 and it is very stable. It has been running without problems for more then 12 months now. The only downtime I had was during the many upgrades of the p4 server with newer versions from 97.3 till 99.1.

Using a Unix server with NT clients seems crazy to me. The stabillity should be fine too, but you will introduce case-sensitivity issues on your clients for no good reason.

I'm trying to decide on what hardware and OS to buy for a Perforce server. We're an NT shop (virtually all the clients will be NT except for a couple of Unixes), but I've read enough on this list to realize that we should run the Perforce server on Unix. Since we don't have any Unix servers currently, I need to buy one. The question is ... which hardware and OS - FreeBSD, Linux, Solaris, HP, etc. I would appreciate your recommendations. We'll have about 15 to 20 developers. Thanks in advance, Glenn
