My personal advice: write lots of code, read lots of other people's
code (the book "Beautiful Code" might be a good start) and learn a lot
of different programming languages. If your aim is becoming a security
pro, definitely also learn C (well, you should learn C anyway).
Concerning books, there's "Security Warrior", "Network Security
Tools", both by O'Reilly. There's also "Maximum Security", a very good
book, but quite outdated by now (in some areas). For web application
security the "Web Application Hacker's Handbook" is very good.
