Exactly the same result. According to strace, after reading the message it checks /etc/courier/maildroprc, and then: open(".mailfilter", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) stat64("./Maildir/tmp", 0xbfffefdc) = -1 ENOTDIR (Not a directory) stat64("./Maildir", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0600, st_size=781, ...}) = 0

(the errors are OK, that's just because ~mail/Maildir isn't really a maildir. However I don't want it looking there in the first place)
