When /etc/maildropfilter contains /usr/lib/courier/bin/maildrop, anytime an email is sent to a local user who doesn't exist, I get this:

511 maildrop: Unable to change to home directory.

When I remove the /etc/maildropfilter file, I get this

addr=<din@moment.net>: Unable to read .courier file. addr=<din@moment.net>,status: deferred

How do I get courier to just say "No Such User"? Is "Unable to change to home directory" basically the same thing? Seems like it used to say No Such User at one time....

They are different manifestations of the same problem: the home directory for this account does not exist, or has incorrect ownership or permissions.

Yes. The user doesn't exist. Not in /etc/passwd, not in userdb. Yet Courier says "Unable to change to home directory". Why even bother if the user doesn't exist? That's my question I guess.

Specify your exact configuration. Is moment.net in locals, hosteddomains, or is it an aliased virtual domain?
