I was visiting in San Jose, CA this past week. I used the google public transportation ability and wanted to send some feedback on using it.
I arrived in San Jose at the Amtrak station at 65 Cahill St San Jose, CA 95110. I wanted to go to the Motel 6 at 2081 North 1st Street San Jose, CA 95131 by using the light rail.
Google maps told me to walk about 9 minutes to the San Fernando Station, but there was a light rail station at the address for Amtrak.
Funny that you got this trip around the time Devin posts "Walking Directions in Google Maps". If you use the new walking directions to measure the time between the Amtrak/Caltrain station and each of the VTA LRT stations you'll find San Fernando station is closer. Also, because you are boarding a train going east you can arrive a little later at San Fernando. This problem is most likely to be fixed by adding something near the Amtrak/Caltrain station as an entrance to the VTA station. How this is represented is a work in progress in the GTFS Changes group.
Then it had me get off the light rail at the San Jose Airport stop which would be a walk to the motel while the closest stop at Karina Court was much closer.
Other than that, the google maps was great to use for the public transportation in the area. I was glad to see that the maps showed the light rail stops. This is what keyed me into the fact that the Karina stop was much closer.
Today I tried the same route, the map still had me walk to the San Fernando Station but had me get off at the Karina Court Station
