Actually, many people still prefer other imap and pop servers for Maildir+ storages that are compatible with courier. I'm not one of those. But, well, this being a free/libre open source world, different mixes tend to appear quite frequently.

This could be similar case, then - you can contribute too. My idea would be create maildrop replacement or enhance maildrop with delivery to DB part. If you take this approach, I would be interested a bit, because this could be part of usefull mail automated engine - think of email ticketing system as an example.
