I would swear that nobody was on the server that day moving this person's files around manually. Also, this person is working on an IMAP client of his own. I don't see anything in the RFC specific to moving messages between folders, but is there a way that this could have happened using IMAP commands?

Thank you for your time.

What server version are you running? 1.3.10 and earlier might get occasionally confused by the billenium bug. That's all I can think of. If you have sqwebmail installed, sqwebmail will move files around in a way that can cause this.
