This is not a fatal error. The server will proceed. The sole impact of this error is that message UIDs will be lost, which is not the end of the world. The only possible way not to be able to delete mail is that if you're completely out of disk space, and there isn't sufficient space on the filesystem to rename a message file, in order to mark it as a deleted; no disk space exists to hold the new directory entry.
