What about the text within any inline element or line box? The default is 16px (1em~1.2em) in height with a 96dpi setting and each glyph is about 10 pixels wide. This also applies to the intrinsic dimensions of an image.

We are speaking about different things.

Image is display:inline-block; element strictly speaking. display:inline elements have no meaning for width and height as they are not solid blocks but rather fluid chains of boxes - e.g. characters and inline-block elements.
