Hi,
I have been valiantly attempting to get esmtp mail delivery working for
quite some time now!
Firstly, I was using the Perl Mail::Sendmail client to attempt delivery.
Thank you Sam for showing it's incorrect smtp dialogue.
Secondly, I was using my hotmail account. Thank you all for a rewarding
dialogue about rfc2045, conformance and woe at the fall of fascism in the
fortys.
Now I am using Netscape Messenger 4.75 and sendmail-8.11.2-14.
With this I get a DSN with:
546 Routing loop detected -- too many Received: headers.
The logs show a large number of mail messages being generated confirming
this behaviour.
I am unsure what may be the cause. On the offchance that it is something
trivial, I haven't included any debug here.
Could it somehow be related to my machine being a gateway with two IP
addresses? I have a local DNS knowing about the intranet adresses. I do
not set any IP address in the esmtpd config and netstat confirms
courieresmtp (via couriertcpd) listening on all interfaces.
As an aside, is anyone compiling a list of known Courier friendly and
Courier unfriendly smtp clients - this would be most useful!
Thanking you in advance,
Alan
