What bandwidth? Network bandwidth? None needed - processing is on the server. Cycles? Then don't install triggers and you won't pay for them. The performance thing is a red herring. You should only pay for triggers you install and the the triggers you install take too much processing time then you need a bigger machine.

It's not a duh because these are depot level locks aren't they? That's very costly in a busy system. And if you are doing per file transforms that will be too much blocking regardless of server size. The goal is to be able to do everything you need to do, not just understand the costs. The spare cycles are on the client side.
