Can you send us some examples of what you have tried?

Have you tried something like

libexec/mysqld --socket=/tmp/mysqld-test.sock

What does 'mysqladmin --help' say ?

Note that if everything else fails, you should be able to use our binary distribution for Linux (not .RPM); As we have compiled this version ourselves we have an easier time helping you with this!
