CISCO DISCOVERY PROTOCOL CDP is not recommded unless one is using ODR in a cisco-only networks (i dont really see a need to use this though)...

Guys,
Deferred frame counts are simply the number of times that the switch tried to put a frame on the wire, and the medium was busy. I believe those deferred will be re-tried after a random backoff period. As you can see, there are no output drops, so I wouldn't worry about it. I think that frame will just sit in the TX ring for a few more microseconds Check out: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps605/products_configura tion_guide_chapter09186a0080112d29.html#62679

Hello Mike,
Can you please tell me why running cdp is not recommended?
Thanks, Mike Hayes

I'm seeing 3716 deferred frames on a 10/full interface. I suspect a duplex mismatch even though the Telco assures me that their interface is 10/full as well. Anybody seen this problem on another 2950 switch?

I only say this for troubleshooting purposes. I'm fairly certain you will see duplex mismatch error messages in your log if you have CDP enabled (and if you're logging, of course). However, I would not recommend running CDP after you determine if there is a mismatch.
Mike
