Ditto from below. Crack open a copy of the MySQL documentation that can be found on http://www.mysql.com. That'll tell you how to start it up as a service as well as get your hands wet with the CLI and/or MySQLAdmin.

You will not get any icons to start your MySQL server. If you installed into c:/mysql, there should be a file called winmysqladmin.exe under c:/mysql/bin Start that up, and provide a username and password

Hi

I installed mysql-4.0.20d-win.zip on windows XP. But after instalation I didnt find any Icon on desktop or in stirt menu to start with. Also in the last window of installation, there was no check box to open ReadMe file or MySQL Cient server, though it was telling to select the boxes. Though in my instalation dir C:\mysql is allright. Please help me regarding this as i am the middle of the work. Thanking you.
