It won't affect anything really....especially for this contest. I mean, there is too much money in this industry to just close shop and and say it was nice while it lasted. Trust me, nothing will change from the perspective of developers and especially for carriers and manufacturers that make fortunes off this daily.
And patent disputes liek this show up all the time (i'm not even in the fortune telling business and even i can see yet-another frivilous patent dispute popping in and out of quantum existence tomorrow) and most of the time just disappear....and when they dont, they end up settling for non-news worthy values. In the end, like in most high- stakes corporate patent cases, it ends up not affecting the end-user all that much.
