To answer some additional questions:
We use a dedicated Sun UltraSparc 1 for the p4 server.
It has a 100baseT ethernet connection (many of our workstations do too).
The depot is stored on a Sun Storage Array with a fiber optic channel to the
CPU.
This is an overkill, but considering it's central to our development
efforts-it's justified.

A prospective perforce customer and friend ask me if I thought his project was too big for perforce (it wasn't)... so out of curiosity, I put some numbers together on our source tree/p4 depot. I thought I'd share them:
Lines of source (just using wc -l): 3,503,762 Number of files: 19,338 Size of a single src tree: 294 MB Number of significant branches: 23 Number of files in the actual depot: 130,173 Size of the depot (and all db.* files) = just over 6 GB. Number of active users: 130 Today, a get/submit of the source is just as fast as it was on day one. Since we switched to p4 (2/97), we've had over 12,000 submits (our change number is approaching 14,500).
