I do see a few with the icons - were they added to GM some other way?

In most cases where bus stop icons are shown, they came from a GTFS feed submitted by an agency/operator. (Some transit icons, generally rail icons, come from other data sources.)

Note that the transit icons on the map are updated less frequently than the trip-planning system, so it may take a little while for changes to the set of stops in a source GTFS feed to be reflected on the map.
