I only can guess something wrong in the unzip file process, take a look in the directory for the files size like below:

Apologies for this having to be my first post to the list, but I'm at a complete loss as to what to do. Here's the situation:

I was running MySQL 3.23.42 on my Win2K box and it was working properly. I recently decided to upgrade to the current release (to match the version running on my production server) and followed the standard procedure: (1) stop the service, (2) uninstall the service, (3) uninstall the app using the add/remove programs applet, (4) install the new version.

I never made it to number four. After the uninstall - which reported that it completed successfully - MySQL won't install at all. No version will - I've tried every one available at the SourceForge site, including the one that I previously had installed and working. And I tried all of the installs from an Administrator-level account, so I'm reasonably certain that this isn't a permissions issue.

When I run the setup executable, all I get is a default beep and the flash of a window opening and immediately closing. No error messages and no entries in the event log or anywhere else. The situation hasn't affected any other install routines, though. Everything else installs & uninstalls without a hitch. The problem is just with MySQL.

I was able to restore the old MySQL directory from a backup and and get it working fine again, but it's beginning to look like the only way I'm going to be able to install a different version is to do a fresh reinstall the operating system. (I've even tried installing from safe mode to no avail. Same results.)

Does anyone have any idea how I can get around/fix this? Some manual corrections to the registry, maybe?
