So comment this attribute out in one of the schemas where it occurs redundantly, then.

did this and now ldap starts fine. But the attributes are not showing up. I am a complete novice and must be doing something silly. I am trying to access the ldap server from my windows PC. Does gq runs on windows? Your next mail suggests downloading of gq on linux. But I am not having GUI based access to the server. Any help please.

I'm afraid gq doesn't work on Windows; moreover the rpm I recommended only runs on RHL4. I also have an FC6 rpm and source rpms which should build on FC/RHL >= 6, if you can arrange a Red Hat Linux workstation.

As for not seeing the attributes, you won't until you've included the objectClass in the record - phpldap won't help you with this, but gq will. Otherwise you'll just have to use ldifs and use ldapmodify to get the new objectClasses and attributes into each record. You really should find a way of getting gq to work on a machine at your site; either that, or take a lightning course in OpenLDAP tools and shell scripting which will do the same, but without a GUI.

Sorry I can't help more.

Success,
