Not true! I'm used it with several ATAPI drives. Use the 'cooked_ioctl' interface...

Lessee, I've played with this under 4.1-RELEASE and 4.3-RELEASE:
/usr/local/bin/cdda2wav -D /dev/cdrom -I cooked_ioctl -P 0 -xH \ -O wav -t <track>
I have had the machine panic when I try to get the TOC of some multimedia CDs...
