Yes. That was it. Silly me! I've added a SHELL="/bin/bash" to my ~/.mailfilter and everything works as expected.

Ah see, now we both benefit here. I didn't know you could do that :) - this means you don't actually have to give real accounts a shell if you just want to run a script under their uid. That is useful!
